NETLab was set up in September 2017 and is affiliated with the Faculty of Communication at the University of Ankara. The aim of the NETLab is to conduct research in the field of communication, train its own staff and students. NETLab also collaborates with other organizations and institutions on international projects.
About 10 people currently work in the NETLab. Research at the NETLab falls into one of six main areas: Media Archaeology, Social Media, Data Visualization, Free Software, Digital Game, and Digital Storytelling. Each area encompasses a number of fields of research, such as the use of Internet, digital journalism, online advertising, new media art, and the impact of social network sites on political campaigns, participation, social movements, etc.
