Understanding Virtual Reality and 360° Video
Technology
Project Summary
With the proliferation of virtual reality platforms, it has been discussed what kind of innovations 360° video technology will bring to digital storytelling. This new generation of video technology shows significant differences compared to traditional video shooting and editing methods. In this digital environment, where the camera angle disappears, the shooting team needs to go beyond the traditional and apply new techniques.
The aim of this project is to identify the positive and negative aspects of 360° video technology and to create a techno-guide for those who want to use this technology by revealing the difficulties encountered in the pre-production, production and post-production stages. In the field research, a mini-documentary was prepared to be watched on virtual reality platforms using a 360° video camera. In this process, the reactions of the viewers in the virtual environment, the positioning of the presenter and the shooting crew in relation to the camera, and all stages of the post-production process were recorded.
In line with the findings obtained, the techno-guide continues to be prepared.
