• Digital Content Production and Beyond

Project Objective

The aim of the project "Improving Content Production Skills of Young People to be Employed in Cultural Industries" is to increase the digital skill levels of young people between the ages of 16-29 who want to specialize in interactive media and produce audiovisual content under the umbrella of cultural industries.

 

In this framework, the sub-objectives of the project can be listed as follows:

  • Raising awareness of young people about the cultural industries ecosystem and the professions it hosts.
  • Informing young people about the specialized skills needed in the cultural industries.
  • Ensuring that young people who will be in service in the culture industry use hardware, software and platforms suitable for the content they will produce.
  • Ensuring that young people with limited economic capital can also produce audiovisual content by emphasizing open source, easily accessible and usable software.

Project Team

He was graduated from Bilkent University Department of Communication and Design in 2006. He received his master's degree from Anhalt University (Germany), Department of Design with his thesis titled "Optic Illusion and itsit's Uuse for Ddesign" and his PhD degree from Ankara University, Institute of Social Sciences, Department of Radio Television Cinema with his thesis titled "New Media Structuring of Television Broadcasting in Turkey". During his design studies, he worked in Computer Aided Graphic Animation (CGI) and Visual Effects in different advertising agencies and research centers affiliated to universities. The animated films he designed were exhibited in different cities including Ankara, Istanbul and Berlin. He started working at Ankara University, Faculty of Communication, Department of Radio and Television in 2011. Since then, he has taken part in the establishment of the Ankara University Faculty of Communication Film Workshop (İLEF FA) and carried out many projects under the roof of the workshop. In 2017, he founded and coordinated the NETlab New Media Research Laboratory. He is fluent in French and English. His research interests include new media, distance education technologies, Web TV, television 2.0 ecosystem, information technologies, virtual museums, digital gaming and eSports.

Nilüfer Pınar Kılıç graduated from Gazi University, Department of Business Administration in 2007. Then, she worked in a public institution for 5 years. In 2012, when she started working at the Public Relations and Publicity Department of the Faculty of Communication in Ankara University, she completed her master’s degree at which she analyzed the public relations practices of non-governmental organizations. She completed his doctoral degree in 2018 by writing her thesis named “Facebook Usage Practices of Elderly People with Kemalist Orientation in the Context of Populism Discussions”. She is still an academic staff at Ankara University, Faculty of Communication.

Esra Özgür graduated from Bilkent University, Department of Communication and Design in 2016. She completed her master's degree at Kadir Has University New Media program with her thesis titled "WhatsApp Groups Experience of Elderly Users". She worked as a radio programmer and presenter at a local radio station in Ankara. He freelanced in illustration, animation, design and video projects. As of 2020, she has been working as a research assistant at Ankara University Faculty of Communication, Department of Radio and Television. She is a doctoral student in the Department of Radio, Television and Cinema. She is fluent in English and French. Her main interests are new media, digital storytelling and alternative social media cultures.

Hümeyra Hüsmen graduated from Istanbul Şehir University Faculty of Communication in 2017 with an experimental short film project titled Mosk isimli deneysel kısa film projesiyle tamamladı. 2020 yılında Anadolu Üniversitesi İletişim Fakültesi Sinema ve Televizyon Ana Bilim Dalından “2000 sonrası Türkiye sanat sinemasında erkek çocuk karakterler” isimli tez çalışma ile mezun oldu. 2019 yılında Gaziantep Üniversitesi Güzel Sanatlar Fakültesi bünyesinde Araştırma Görevlisi olarak göreve başladı. 2021 yılından itibaren doktorasına devam ettiği Ankara Üniversitesi İletişim Fakültesi bünyesinde görevini devam ettirmektedir. Türkiye Sineması, dijital sinema ve sanal gerçeklik anlatıları ile ilgilenmektedir.

Panel

NFT, Crypto Assets and the Culture Industry

Oğuz Evren Kılıç, Buğra Ayan and Dr. Çağla Gül Şenkardeş participated in the panel moderated by Assoc. Prof. Dr. Ergin Şafak Dikmen. The concepts of blockchain technology and crypto assets, which are rapidly growing in our daily lives, were defined. Blockchain technology, which is based on decentralization, proceeds through the community, and therefore, while the personal rights of works and ideas are secured, it is ensured to reach wider audiences. The possibilities offered by crypto assets in the democratization of the internet and the solutions that NFT technology can offer to artists in terms of copyright were discussed.

Data Visualization

Before moving on to the application, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Bilge Şenyüz made a presentation explaining what data visualization is and how to proceed in this process. Data visualization, which can also be defined as a new type of digital narrative, makes data more memorable for the target audience. Python and R are the two most commonly used languages for data visualization. In the data visualization process, we need to create a story, clean the data, and transform the data into a format that we can make sense of. After the theoretical information, an application was made on the RAWGraphs site.

Audio Industry and Radio Broadcasting in a Platformized Broadcasting Environment

Moderated by Halil Güven and with the participation of Kurtuluş Özyazıcı, Andaç Işık, Halil Güven, Burcu Sümer and Sinem Akyön Çelik, the panel started with the narration of Radyo İlef's forty-year journey. Founded in 1975 with the help of UNESCO, the radio studio remained in the background as applied courses had not yet started. In 1982, Lecturer. Assist. Rıfat Araz, closed-circuit broadcasting started in the school and students had the opportunity to practice what they had learned in class. Since 2005, Radyo İlef has been broadcasting on the FM91 band. Radyo İlef aims to expand its reach in the new period. Kurtuluş Özyazıcı talked about the transformation of public broadcasting in the digital age through TRT and Andaç Işık talked about new technologies and the future of radio. 

Workshop

Science Communication Workshop

The workshop, organized as part of the STS 2022 Conference, started with the presentation of the NETlab New Media Research Laboratory. It was explained what NETlab does in the field of science communication and how it supports researchers in communicating their scientific work to people from different fields and levels by using the possibilities of digital media. Projects on the platform were examined. What can be done with 360-degree video in the field of science communication was discussed through the project on the website. Participants experienced 360 video technology with their own cell phones. In the application part, an example of data visualization was also made through open source platforms.
